Israel, U.S. at odds over conflicting visions for postwar Gaza

The US wants a 2-state solution. That means shutting down all Israeli-built settlements placed on the wrong side of the fence. Israelis won’t go for that, ever.

The US and Israel both want Hamas and other terror organization gone. The Palestinians won’t go for that, so we have 3 sides each with completely unrealistic demands, so more people will have to die. Most of those people will be Hamas militants, but some Hamas aid workers, Palestinian civilians and Israelis will also die.

It is a real mess. An honest, disinterested, third party could aid the negotiations for a solution that achieves the big items and makes everyone equally unhappy. I don’t see that happening with those who have offered to mediate so far.
