On Thursday, the US and Israel inked a declaration on a bilateral “strategic partnership,” which specifically includes Washington’s commitment to stop Tehran from ever building a nuclear weapon using any means necessary. The Islamic Republic has repeatedly denied seeking to build a nuclear bomb.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry has accused the US of attempting to destabilize the Middle East, in a statement that came shortly after President Joe Biden ended his Mideast tour, which included POTUS attending the Jeddah Summit for Security and Development that brought together the six members of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), as well as Egypt, Jordan and Iraq.
The ministry’s spokesman Nasser Kanani stressed that Washington “has once again resorted to the failed policy of Iran-phobia, trying to create tensions and crises in the region.”
Kanani also commented on Biden signing a security communique with Israel to reinforce a common front against Iran and pledging to use “all” US power to stop Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
The spokesman slammed the move as a “great sign of the deception and hypocrisy” of the United States, because “they turn a blind eye to the Zionist (Israel) regime as […] the greatest holder of the arsenal of nuclear weapons in the region.”
Additionally, he referred to Biden calling for more diplomatic efforts to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon, emphasizing that “these false allegations [on Iran ostensibly trying to obtain an atomic bomb] are in line with Washington’s seditious policy […] in the region”.
The remarks followed POTUS telling a summit of Arab leaders in the Saudi town of Jeddah on Saturday that the US “will not walk away” from the Middle East and “won’t leave a vacuum to be filled by China, Russia or Iran.”
Biden added that “we will seek to build on this moment with active, principled, American leadership.”
This came a few days after Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi warned that any “mistakes” by the US or its allies to stoke a regional crisis would be met with a “harsh and regrettable response from Tehran.”
“We consider the power of the Americans to be weaker today than ever, and as the Westerners themselves say, the policy of maximum pressure against the Islamic Republic via sanctions and threats has failed, and they should not test these policies of the past again,” Raisi emphasized.

Separately, the declaration signaled the two sides’ resolve “to work together to combat all efforts to boycott or de-legitimize Israel, to deny its right to self-defense, or to unfairly single it out in any forum, including at the United Nations or the International Criminal Court.”
