OPINION: Would You Sell Them Out?

A question for American lawmakers about Ukraine.

Dumb question is dumb. A large percentage of US legislators- almost all from one particular party- would happily sell grandma to cannibals if it would gain them a few extra ‘likes’ on social media. Stop trying to shame them- they’re shameless. Just appeal to their baser instincts.

Local Ukrainian doctors travel to Kyiv, operating on injured soldiers

Two Syracuse doctors are back home after traveling to their native country of Ukraine to help soldiers injured in the country’s war with Russia.

A life-changing mission for the two Upstate Urologists.

In May 2023, Dr. Bratslavsky was told a military urologist was searching for a reconstructive surgeon. Bratslavsky couldn’t think of a better person than his colleague, Dr. Nikolavsky. Nikolavsky was more than willing to go, eager to return to his homeland and help those in need.

While preparing for the trip, Ukrainian urologists traveled to Syracuse in August 2023, where Dr. Nikolavsky taught them different techniques, including transplanting tissue from the patient’s mouth to the damaged urethra. After their training was done, they returned to Ukraine, keeping in close contact with Dr. Nikolavsky while operating on injured soldiers.

In December 2023, Dr. Bratslavsky and Dr. Nikolavsky traveled to Poland where they met two Urologists, from Mexico and Poland. Together, they took an 18-hour train ride from Poland to Kyiv, Ukraine, for their final stop at a military hospital.

Heh.  The only thing I found torturous about living in Boston was the traffic.  The very first thing I did after driving down there from northern NH was give up my car and stop driving forever.  One taste of driving in that Boston traffic was all it took to make me never want to drive ever again in my entire life.  (To this day, even back in NH now, I don’t have a driver’s license anymore.  I let it lapse and never renewed it.  Now, all I’ve got is a non-driver’s ID card.)

Update from Ukraine | Ruzzian Planes are Confirmed to be Shot down | Iran strikes US bases

Yesterdays Denys

For those of you new to the Ukrainian War threads or who are only able to check them occasionally, here’s my post summarizing the WW3 threads for January 6 through January 12 (Days 682 to 688) and the welfare check ins (part 2). Had to split them due to the number of tagged Farkers in the update.

Oneiros should be around to post the most up-to-date list of aid links, but here’s the most recent list (part 2, part 3) which should be mostly fresh until he is. Older summaries along with an archive of threads can be found here in a spreadsheet being maintained by notmyjab and turboke if you need to catch up on that. Specific posts are under the “articles” tab. And if you need a good laugh, check out danceswithcrows‘s meme emporium (and now the corvids are collating and cataloguing Bob Able‘s colorings!) or toraque‘s improved Russian press releases. If you’re looking for a frontline account, check Medic Zero‘s substack.

As always, let me know if there’s anything more to include that I missed and help me keep an eye out over the upcoming week for key events.

Dammit, March!

.

For those that missed it, I wrote up a piece on the Russian air disaster yesterday.

Another murder mystery for you from the land of blyat! (substack.com)

I tired to cover all the angles, but I missed the very movie-esque (Guns of Navarrone?) scenario of Ukrainian special forces escorting a S-300 crew behind enemy lines, capturing a battery and shooting down the Russians with their own weapons. Or the similar partisans somehow pull off the same thing. Both, although they’d make fantastic movies, seem quite unlikely to me.

.

RobSeace: Ukraine ground commander says his troops, now on ‘active defence’, can still surprise

Yep. That’s the ‘active’ part. It’s not just a willingness to cede ground occasionally when terrain or other conditions dictate it, losing less lives than trying to hold onto every inch of your soil, knowing that you’ll eventually get it back. It also means sometimes engaging in local counter-attacks, and sometimes capitalizing on your enemies weakness when it presents itself.

Odd, klaxons just kicked off, ruuskis usually don’t attack mid-afternoon.

* checks apps *  Ah. Looks like maybe my whole oblast popped due to tactical aviation operating near the frontline:

The Gerasimov joke was good.

Remember when the naval commander Sokolov was killed in Crimea and they composited a fake (I think) zoom video of him participating in a major meeting soon after?

I never saw Sokolov again after that.

They can’t do a fake video like that of the G-man because he is meant to be there in person with Putin and Shoigu in videos.

Therefore, I think he is as dead as a parrot.

Russian President Vladimir Putin’s eldest daughter, Maria Vorontsova, earned 944 million rubles ($10.7 million) as an employee of the New Medical Company (NOMEKO) from 2019 to 2022, opposition politician Aleksei Navalny’s team said in an investigative report published on January 15.

Considering the North American trucker protests of two years ago were Russian agitprop, I’m wondering if Vlad had anything to do with this one.

Ukraine aid links

A month and a half into the war (day 44), many of us felt helpless and listless at not being able to do more to help, so here is a list of things that we can do.

There are plenty of charities that could use your help, but even if you don’t have spare cash lying about, there are still things you can do, so keep reading

If you know any Ukrainians in need or in the war zone, see the top of the (continued) post for links for them.

You can donate directly to Ukraine if you want to help them make more videos of tanks blowing up. (See ‘military aid’ below)

There are lots of humanitarian groups working to feed the displaced people and even their pets.  (See ‘humanitarian aid’)

And even if you’re not in a position to give cash, you might be able to find a group that needs some volunteer help or attend a protest.  If you don’t have a group in your area specifically helping Ukraine, you can likely still find other worthwhile causes.  And there are groups that have tasks that can be done online or over the phone without even leaving your home. (See ‘other notes’ (in the “continued” post)). Even just calling politicians to remind them that we need to support Ukrainians.

You can call out dumbasses online who are spreading russian propaganda and otherwise spewing toxic crap.  (Or join groups like NAFO) And by ignoring or blocking the assholes on here who try that shiat. (Make sure to watch for other threads, not just the daily one)

And you can even support capitalism, and buy stuff made in Ukraine or are fundraisers for the war effort.  (See ‘buying stuff’, (in the “continued” post)

If you’re actually in a position where you can travel to Ukraine to help out, see https://www.volunteeringukraine.com  (they also list some online PR / NAFO type stuff)

This is in no way a comprehensive list.  This is just groups that Farkers have mentioned in past threads.  (Which I had to start trimming to comply with Fark’s 100 link limit per comment before splitting it in two). If you want a more comprehensive list, see https://supportukrainenow.org . They also have links to specific groups by country that you’re coming from for protests, taking in displaced people, etc.  You might also find interesting charities at https://standwithukraine.today/ukrainian-charities/ and https://old.reddit.com/r/ukraine/comments/tgc00n/want_to_support_ukraine_heres_a_list_of_charities/

I make no claims about any of these groups.  I’ve trimmed a few that people have said might be suspect, but I have no personal knowledge of any of them.  If you feel the need to vet them before donating, see GuideStar or Charity Navigator. (Links to them below). Or see Forbes’ list at https://www.forbes.com/advisor/personal-finance/donate-relief-to-ukraine/. To check if a company is legitimately registered in Ukraine, see https://gcs-ukraine.com/en/how-to-check-company-in-ukraine/

If you hear that one of the groups that I have listed is suspect (like the groups that weren’t actually doing anything, or expected to get paid by Ukraine then left), let me know and I’ll trim this list down some.

If you’re currently employed by a large-ish company, they may have a donation matching program.  You can check https://doublethedonation.com/ but it’s also worth contacting your HR to ask even if they’re not listed there.

Brits and such should consider donating to UK charities as they can get 25% ‘Gift Aid’ matching from the UK government.

If you’ve gained profits from stocks, consider donating the stocks directly, so they get the full value and you don’t need to hold some back to pay capital gain taxes.  (If you’re using a brokerage firm, ask them how to do it)
